Vigan, 6 other PH cities qualify for next phase in search for ‘New Seven Wonder Cities’ of the world

In a press release by the Philippines Information Agency, 7 Philippine cities made it to the initial qualification phase in the search of the “New7Wonder Cities of the World”.

The heritage city of Vigan is among the seven cities in the country set to hurdle the qualification phase in the “Search for New 7 Wonder Cities of the World.”

Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina said Vigan is on top of these seven cities that entered the next phase from the original 16 cities in the country nominated for the search.

The initial phase of the search started January 7 and ended last March 7.

Other cities included in the Magic 7 are Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod and Parañaque.

The seven cities joined 300 cities all over the world competing to enter in the shortlist of 77 cities across the globe that will be voted through on–line from March 7 to November 22, 2012.

From the 77 cities to be selected in the shortlist phase, judges in the Search for the New 7 Wonder Cities will select 28 cities-finalists in on-line voting that will start from November 23 till December 6, 2012.

In the final phase, three casting of votes will be held within a period from December 7, 2012 to December 6, 2013.

The New 7 Wonder Cities to be voted by millions of people all over the world will be officially declared on December 7, 2013.

Thus, Mayor Medina appealed to the Filipinos and all ethnic groups all over the world to help support Vigan City in its quest for the world’s search for the New 7 Wonder Cities.

Vigan City is dubbed as the “World’s Living Museum” due to its remaining well–preserved hundreds of Spanish ancestral houses found in its heritage village.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific Organization (UNESCO) declared Vigan as a World’s Heritage Site in 1999.
