As pointless as a plank

“Planking” is an activity that involves lying face down in an unusual location – the stranger, the better. The hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the internet is an integral part of the game.

Yesterday, during a nationwide transport strike, youth protesters engaged in “planking” along a major road, causing traffic jams.

A member of  Congress, Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo, filed a bill today against ‘planking’ during street protests – the Anti-Planking Act of 2011.

News of the lawmaker proposing to outlaw the act in protest activities, however, indicate that when it all comes down to it, supporters and enthusiasts of planking won’t take the issue lying face down.

Pinoy social media users were quick to the draw in pointing out their opinions. As of posting time, “Planking Act of 2011″ is the top trending topic in the Philippines, and third worldwide on Twitter.

I guess it’s only apt that it came after #YouShouldBeEmbarrassed in the worldwide trend because I personally think that it’s a waste of time and taxpayers’ money to even file this bill. It’s as pointless as ‘planking’ itself. There are more important issues out there that this public servant should spend time on.
