“Foul-mouthed bedtime book a hit”, an article in one of the Philippine dailies caught my attention when I saw it on my Twitter timeline.
It thought it was for kids. But turned out, this book is really for parents!
I remember the days when I read to my boys during bedtime. I was kind of lucky in that department, though. They were not fussy babies. As long as I was just beside them, they would fall asleep easily. And by the time they could read (4 years old), they would rather read to me.
But there were times when it was challenging. I am sure every parent had, more than once, spent 30 minutes, 40 minutes, two hours reading ‘just one more bedtime story’. It felt like you will never, ever be able to go out of the room, especially when there are still chores waiting for you at the kitchen, or a movie paused on the DVD player.
“Go the F**k to Sleep“ combines cutesy rhymes with expletive-ridden pleas. It’s written by novelist Adam Mansbach after his own daughter failed to nod off one night.
Well, wadyaknow! I would gladly have that ‘ordeal’ to have an inspiration for a book! Just brilliant!
Definitely not something you would read to your kids, but it’s a must-read for tired parents ” who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.”
The cats nestle close to their kittens now.
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You’re cozy and warm in your bed, my dear.
Please go the fuck to sleep.
